The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, has expressed his support for the Prime Minister’s decision to shift the management oversight of the Fiji National University (FNU) from the Ministry of Education to the Ministry of Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics. In his statement, Minister Radrodro emphasized his commitment to support the Prime Minister as the leader of the government and chair of the Cabinet.
Following the announcement of the shift, Radrodro communicated the changes to the FNU Council, indicating that the decision stems from a strategic vision designed to better integrate the university within the national planning priorities while embracing a holistic government approach to development. He acknowledged FNU’s vital role as a dual-sector institution, responsible for both higher education and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), suggesting that aligning it more closely with national strategic planning is a logical step forward.
He reaffirmed SODELPA’s dedication within the coalition government, stating that the party’s partnership is rooted in collective responsibility towards the people of Fiji. While recognizing the historical significance of the Ministry of Education’s oversight role, Radrodro highlighted the primary focus on enhancing FNU’s capacity to effectively contribute to workforce development and the economic resilience of the nation.
The Minister reassured students, staff, and stakeholders that this transition would not diminish the government’s commitment to education but instead represents an evolving approach to positioning national institutions to better face future challenges. He concluded his message by urging unity and focus among FNU’s communities during this transitional period, ending with a heartfelt call for collective fortitude and faith in their journey forward.
