Weather Update for Your Daily Dose of Meteorological Shenanigans

Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 5:27 PM on that fateful Wednesday, January 21st, 2026.

Buckle up, folks! A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been hoisted over Viti Levu and parts of Vanua Levu. Areas affected include Korolevu, Interior Ba, Interior Nadroga-Navosa, Sigatoka-Coral Coast, the Interior of Serua-Namosi, and the eastern climes of Southern Bua and Cakaudrove. We might just witness a thunderstorm performance worth a standing ovation!

Now, onto the performance forecast for Fiji until midnight tomorrow:
Prepare for a mixed bag of weather—cloudy times followed by a few cheeky showers in Labasa, Namuka, and Udu Point. Taveuni and its smaller island buddies are also in for a wet surprise, while the Lau and Lomaiviti groups might just get a splash of rain.

As for the sunny crews like Nadi, Lautoka, and friends up in Tavua and Rakiraki, expect fine weather, with only brief showers bothering your sun-soaking plans. But don’t put away the umbrellas just yet! Thunderstorms are preparing for their grand entrance in the afternoon or evening.

Forewarning: localised heavy rainfall could turn roads into rivers in those low-lying areas, so don’t go planning to sail your boat to work just yet.

Saturday’s outlook: Cloudy with showers making guest appearances, especially in the Sigatoka to Rakiraki corridor, and visiting Ba and Ra’s interiors. Expect afternoon showers and boisterous thunderstorms to crash the party later on.

Wind factor: Moderate breezes from the west to southwest—perfect for a relaxed stroll, unless you’re caught in a rain dance.

Now for the regional breakdown:

– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Mainly fine, except when the clouds decide to drop a few afternoon showers.

– Natadradave/Korovou: Mostly sunny, but keep that umbrella handy around the afternoon.

– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: A sunny day is interrupted by those sneaky afternoon thunderstorms.

– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Fine usually, but hold tight for those afternoon and evening shower surprises.

– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Enjoy a fine day, but evening thunderstorms will be knocking at the door.

For Labasa: Expect a mix with some cloudiness, followed by an attempt at storms later on.

Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, and friends: Clouds will tease you, and you may get splashed during the afternoon run.

And for the islanders of Rotuma: You’ve got a mostly fine day, with a rare chance of brief showers keeping the excitement alive.

As temperatures hang around a comfy 31-33°C daytime highs and cool off to 24-25°C at night, the only real question is, will you keep the raincoat or the sunglasses on standby?

Stay safe, stay dry, and don’t forget to laugh in the face of thunder!
