Fiji Airways men’s sevens head coach Osea Kolinisau has commended his team for their mental resilience during training sessions. With the upcoming Perth 7s tournament slated for January 24-26, Kolinisau is focused on enhancing the team’s defensive strategies and spacing, especially under fatigue.
Yesterday marked the team’s return to training after the holiday season. Kolinisau expressed his satisfaction with the players’ mental toughness, especially during challenging fitness drills. “I’m impressed with the players’ mental fortitude in their training as it’s not easy to go through the last set of fitness runs after intense two-minute blocks,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a high intensity level akin to that of the series.
Furthermore, Kolinisau has officially named a squad for the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens taking place next week. Eight players from the current squad are also participating in Mike Friday’s select sevens team. The final team selection for the Perth 7s will follow the Coral Coast tournament at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
A key focus for Kolinisau is to strengthen their defense, particularly in crucial moments of the game, to prevent their opponents from capitalizing on opportunities.
