Fiji Airways’ men’s 7s head coach, Osea Kolinisau, is focusing on the future as his team gears up for a challenging opening match against Argentina at the Perth 7s. Following their victory in Singapore, Kolinisau emphasizes the importance of moving forward, noting that while the triumph boosted team morale, the format of the tournament makes consecutive wins particularly challenging.
“We want to build on momentum from Singapore, but Perth is a new week. Right now it’s tough to win back-to-back with this format, but the plan is to try and do better than Singapore this week and stay ahead in the series,” Kolinisau stated.
Fiji’s first pool match will see them face off against Argentina, who currently lead the series. Kolinisau respects Argentina’s competitive nature, citing their previous performance where they overcame struggles in Dubai to reach the semi-finals in Cape Town. “First game, that’s going to be tough. Argentina is always a good side. They showed that in Dubai. They lost all their matches in Dubai, then went to Cape Town and made the semi-finals. They’re a quality side,” he commented.
He also acknowledged that while Argentina is integrating younger players into the team, there are still many experienced individuals who are pivotal to their strength. The Fiji men’s 7s will kick off their Perth campaign against Argentina at 4:20 PM, followed by matches against Spain at 7:36 PM, and wrapping up their pool against South Africa at 10:52 PM. Fans can watch the matches live on FBC TV.
This upcoming challenge presents an opportunity for Fiji to not only solidify their position in the series but to demonstrate their growth and resilience as they adapt to the competitive landscape of the tournament. Excitement builds around how Fiji will leverage their recent success in Singapore while facing one of their toughest rivals in Argentina, showcasing the unpredictable nature of rugby sevens.
