A representative from Fiji’s national sevens rugby team was arrested for alleged drink driving at the Nadi Temple checkpoint on Saturday night. Kavekini Tanivanuakula has since been charged and released after the incident, as confirmed by Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu. Tanivanuakula is set to appear before the Nadi Magistrate’s Court on February 17, 2025, for the initial hearing.
This incident occurred shortly after Tanivanuakula made his debut for Fiji at the Dubai Sevens, where the team celebrated winning their first SVNS title after 25 HSBC tournaments—a significant achievement for the player and the team.
While this arrest raises concerns, it also serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behavior, especially for public figures. Tanivanuakula has an opportunity to learn and grow from this experience as he continues his sporting career.
In summary, as the national rugby team continues to inspire fans with their successes, it is crucial for athletes to also maintain a positive image off the field.
