Osea Kolinisau, the head coach of the Fiji Airways men’s sevens team, has finalized his squad for the HSBC Dubai 7s, the inaugural event of the 2024/2025 series, announced yesterday.
The selection of the 12-member team came after the successful conclusion of the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s in Lautoka, where Fiji 7s Blue triumphed over Taikita Brothers with a score of 29-5, securing the tournament title. The national representation included two teams, Fiji 7s Blue and Fiji 7s White. The latter team was edged out in the semi-finals with a 10-15 loss to the Taiki Ta Brothers.
Kolinisau’s squad announcement follows a rigorous training phase, demonstrating the commitment and readiness of the players eager to compete in Dubai. Reflecting on the selection process, Kolinisau noted the challenges of choosing a new lineup filled with both seasoned players and newcomers. He stressed the importance of setting high standards for the team.
Late last month, during a training session at the FRU High Performance Gym in Laucala Bay, Suva, Kolinisau conveyed the high stakes and pressure he faces as head coach, underscoring the dedication required from all players.
The team has already departed for Dubai, ready to represent Fiji on an international stage.
The selected national squad includes:
1. Jerry Matana
2. Joji Nasova
3. Sevuloni Mocenacagi
4. Ilikimi Torosi
