Fiji Airways men’s 7s coach Osea Kolinisau is adopting a steady yet assertive strategy as his team gears up for the highly anticipated Singapore 7s later this month. After a well-structured training regimen during the holiday season, which allowed players to spend quality time with their families while maintaining team cohesion, preparations have now kicked into high gear.

Following a disappointing performance in the last two tournaments where Fiji came close to victory, Kolinisau acknowledges the team’s need for improvement but remains optimistic. He stated, “We were disappointed not to win the last two tournaments, but we’re not in a bad place, and finishing the year tied on top with South Africa and New Zealand is important for the rest of the series.”

Currently, Fiji stands level with South Africa and New Zealand at the top of the HSBC Sevens World Series (SVNS) standings. As the team’s focus shifts towards enhancing consistency and execution, the coaching staff sees the Singapore event as a pivotal opportunity to translate strong preparations into tangible results.

The selection for the Singapore 7s squad will be announced a week after the McDonalds Fiji Coral Coast 7s, adding to the anticipation surrounding the upcoming competition, which begins on the 31st of this month. With a solid foundation and a clear focus, Fiji hopes to secure their spot as a leading contender for the series title.
