Excitement is building at Churchill Park in Lautoka as the Yaro Chiefs 7s tournament launches its first day of competition today. Tournament director James Vunituraga expressed enthusiasm for the event, noting it marks the start of the Sevens season and is regarded as one of the premier Rugby 7s tournaments on Fiji’s sporting calendar. He highlighted the teams’ rigorous preparations, with many eager to display their skills on the field at this iconic venue.
Vunituraga spoke warmly of the host team, the Yaro Chiefs Rugby Club, hailing from the Chiefly village of Yaro in Malolo, indicating that the tradition and spirit of rugby will be palpable throughout the event. He encouraged fans from surrounding regions, including Sigatoka, Nadroga, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki, to come out and support their teams, thereby joining in the celebratory atmosphere surrounding the tournament.
This year, spectators can look forward to witnessing not only familiar teams but also the participation of notable contenders such as Army Green, Devo Babas, and Wardens Gold, all of whom are known for their prowess in the sport.
