The Fiji Airways Fiji men’s sevens team is set to welcome several new promising talents from the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s, according to head coach Osea Kolinisau. After observing potential candidates during last week’s tournament in Sigatoka, Kolinisau expressed his enthusiasm for inviting these players to join the national squad as they prepare for the upcoming Singapore 7s at the end of the month.

Kolinisau emphasized the importance of recognizing the skills displayed by players, stating, “There are a few more boys from the Coral Coast that we would like to bring into camp and into the system… the door is always open.” This approach reflects Kolinisau’s commitment to nurturing talent and creating opportunities for aspiring athletes.

The new players are anticipated to be affiliated with the Yaro Chiefs, champions of the Coral Coast 7s. Currently, the Yaro team is engaged in traditional celebrations following their significant victory last Saturday.

Kolinisau highlighted the raw talent demonstrated during the Coral Coast tournament, particularly by the final teams, the Ravuka Sharks and Yaro Chiefs. His observation during training sessions at Albert Park in Suva confirmed that the desire to earn a spot on the national team is strong among current players. He noted key individuals like Police Blue and former Devo Babas player Akuila Dranivotua, along with 2024 Paris Olympian Waisake Tewa, who are stepping up during this competitive period.

As the team trains, Kolinisau remains focused on assessing each player’s readiness to represent Fiji effectively, reinforcing a spirit of competition and excellence within the squad. The inclusion of new talents is viewed as a positive step toward strengthening the team’s lineup for future international competitions, generating optimism for Fiji’s performance on the global stage.
