After a challenging first half in which they trailed 14–7, the Fijians demonstrated their fighting spirit, equalizing the score at 19–all by the end of regulation time and then clinching the win in extra time.
The match started with South Africa striking early, thanks to tries from Tristan Leyds and Donovan Don. However, Fiji responded effectively, with Terio Veilawa scoring twice and Jeremaia Matana adding to the scoreboard. Veilawa not only made pivotal contributions with his tries but also successfully executed key conversions.
