Fiji Airways men’s sevens coach Osea Kolinisau has expressed his admiration for the team’s mental fitness during their recent training sessions. As they prepare for the upcoming Perth 7s tournament scheduled for January 24-26, Kolinisau is focusing on refining defensive strategies and spacing, especially under conditions of fatigue.

The team reconvened for their first training session after the holiday break, where Kolinisau noted the players’ impressive mental resilience. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a high intensity throughout training, stating that it has been encouraging to witness the players push through demanding fitness drills.

Kolinisau has announced the lineup for the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast sevens event, while eight players from his squad will join Mike Friday’s select sevens team. He plans to finalize the lineup for the Perth 7s following the three-day Coral Coast tournament in Sigatoka.

The coach pointed out the necessity for improved defensive tactics, particularly in critical moments of matches, and highlighted the need for enhanced communication and decision-making on the field. He made it clear that all positions are competitive ahead of the tournament.

“Our goal for Perth is to secure a win, and the overarching objective for the season is to clinch the series title, even as we embark on a four-year development trajectory,” Kolinisau remarked. He also expressed gratitude for being recognized in the Coral Coast 7s tournament’s walk of fame, attributing his journey to divine guidance.

Kolinisau is optimistic that his achievements will motivate young Fijian boys to pursue similar paths in sports.

In summary, Kolinisau is not only pushing for a strong performance in the upcoming tournaments but is also focused on developing the team’s skills and mental readiness. His dedication to fostering future talent reflects a positive approach that bodes well for the growth of rugby in Fijian communities.
