Fiji Airways men’s sevens head coach Osea Kolinisau commended his team for their strong mental fitness during training sessions. As the squad prepares for the Perth 7s tournament from January 24-26, Kolinisau is focusing on refining the team’s defensive strategies and maintaining spacing even when fatigued.

The team reconvened for their first training session after the holiday break, and Kolinisau expressed satisfaction with the players’ resilience during rigorous fitness drills. He noted that the intensity of their training is essential for competing effectively in the series.

Kolinisau has already selected a team for the upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast sevens, while eight players have joined Mike Friday’s Select sevens team. The final squad for the Perth 7s will be determined after the three-day tournament at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.

“We want to enhance our defense, particularly in critical moments of the game, to minimize opportunities for our opponents,” Kolinisau stated. He also emphasized the need for improved communication and decision-making on the field, indicating that all positions for the Perth tournament remain competitive.

The coach aims to secure victory in Perth and conveyed that the season’s ultimate goal is to win the series, recognizing the long-term commitment required in their development.

Expressing gratitude for being included in the Coral Coast 7s tournament’s walk of fame, Kolinisau hopes to inspire the next generation of Fijian players.
