Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s Sevens head coach Osea Kolinisau has reiterated that the selection process for the national team remains inclusive, welcoming all eligible players, regardless of their current playing location. His comments followed a challenging scrimmage against the British Army team, largely composed of Fijian soldiers, held at Albert Park.

During this event, Kolinisau expressed gratitude to the players for their participation, especially acknowledging those from the British Army. “The selection door is always open; I’m not limiting it just to those playing in Fiji. The management team and I are constantly on the lookout for new talent,” he stated.

He emphasized that consistent performance in club or invitational tournaments around the world could lead to an opportunity for players to join the national setup. “If you are good enough, we might call you to join the camp and see if you have what it takes to represent your country,” Kolinisau noted, encouraging aspiring athletes to showcase their skills.

The scrimmage proved to be a fiercely competitive match, with the British Army team successfully scoring two tries, which revealed some defensive weaknesses in the Fijian side. Kolinisau acknowledged this, pointing out the critical areas for improvement. “They scored two tries from our mistakes, and that is something we need to work on as a team,” he reflected.

He commended the visiting British Army team for providing a strong contest, highlighting the significance of facing varied opposition to prepare the national team for future challenges. The experience serves as a valuable opportunity for the Fijian squad to assess their current capabilities and refine their strategies as they aim to build a stronger team for upcoming competitions.
