Fiji is grappling with an escalating drug crisis that has raised alarms about its potential to spiral out of control. In response to this pressing issue, the country’s police and military are enhancing their collaborative efforts to address the situation more effectively.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu confirmed that he will be holding a joint briefing with Ro Jone Kalouniwai, the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, on Monday. This meeting aims to reinforce their partnership in combating the rising drug problem, which has garnered increasing public concern and calls for a more substantial involvement from the military alongside the Fiji Police Force.

Commissioner Tudravu emphasized that while collaboration between the police and military is not a new concept, the seriousness of the current drug crisis necessitates a more coordinated and comprehensive response. He highlighted the importance of a holistic approach to tackling drug issues, underscoring that no single agency can address the problem independently.

This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the urgency needed to combat the spread of illicit drugs throughout Fiji and encourages all sectors of society to contribute to this critical fight. The upcoming briefing is expected to set the stage for a more unified and effective strategy to safeguard the community against drug-related challenges.
