Fiji is embarking on a significant initiative to enhance its healthcare system with the introduction of the Primary Health Care Roadmap and Essential Service Package Workshop. This crucial event, which brought together heads of departments from the Ministry of Health, aims to transform policy intentions into actionable steps, ensuring that integrated and high-quality care is accessible across all communities.

Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Luisa Cikamatana emphasized the importance of Primary Health Care as a critical foundation for achieving universal and equitable health access for all citizens. During the workshop, participants underscored the pressing need to transition from planning to implementation, highlighting that “a roadmap without action is just a map.”

The workshop culminated in the finalization of a practical PHC Roadmap and the definition of a core Essential Service Package. This sets the groundwork for collaborative efforts among various government departments, reinforcing the commitment to make robust primary healthcare a fundamental right for every Fijian.

With these developments, Fiji is taking encouraging steps toward creating a more effective and inclusive health system, ultimately improving the well-being of its population. The proactive approach reflects a dedication to ensuring that healthcare services reach even the most remote communities.
