Fiji Sets Bold Digital Agenda with AI, 5G and Cloud Push

Fiji is propelling its digital transformation forward, emphasizing cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and robust cloud infrastructure through extensive investments. At the recent Datec Fiji Tech Summit 2025 in Nadi, Lands and Mineral Resources Minister Filimoni Vosarogo articulated the government’s vision to establish Fiji as a premier digital economy within the Asia-Pacific region.

Under the National Digital Strategy 2025–2030, notable developments include the rollout of 5G technology, the inception of Fiji CERT to enhance cybersecurity, and the drafting of a National Privacy and Personal Data Protection Policy. Vosarogo also highlighted advancements in the National Cybersecurity and Resilience Strategy, which is set to be submitted to the Cabinet by year-end, marking a vital step towards bolstering national security against cyber threats.

The forthcoming phase of this initiative will introduce critical components such as a National Cloud Policy, a National AI Framework, and a National ID system. The government’s goal is ambitious yet promising, aiming to digitize 80% of its services and generate 40,000 jobs in the ICT sector, a significant increase that reflects Fiji’s commitment to economic diversification and innovation.

In his address, Vosarogo stressed the importance of cybersecurity as a national priority, pointing out that Fiji CERT is already engaged in coordinating responses to cyber incidents while raising public awareness about safe online practices. He urged citizens to maintain good cyber hygiene, underscoring that collective responsibility is crucial in fostering a secure digital environment.

An innovative aspect of Fiji’s digital strategy is the Business Now project, recently revamped to unify business registration and permit processes into a streamlined digital platform. This initiative aims to simplify procedures for developers, with a focus on efficiency in obtaining approvals and permits.

As Datec Fiji celebrates its 40th anniversary and continues to lead in technological innovation, Vosarogo called on technology stakeholders and investors to collaborate and contribute to shaping Fiji’s digital future. This collaborative spirit is essential for harnessing the full potential of Fiji’s digital transformation, creating a more inclusive and prosperous economy.

Fiji’s efforts underscore its transformative journey towards a vibrant digital economy, setting an inspiring example for regional counterparts in the pursuit of digital inclusion and resilience. As these initiatives unfold, the future looks promising for the nation’s economic landscape and the quality of life for its citizens.
