A new 30-seater catamaran, named Gosal Cruisers, is set to be launched at the Grand Eastern Hotel in Labasa, aimed at enhancing local tourism and commercial opportunities on Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second largest island. The catamaran, valued at $1 million and the first of its kind for the region, was shipped from China and is owned by Charan Jeath Singh, a business leader and Minister for Sugar.

Mr. Singh expressed optimism about the catamaran’s potential impact, stating it will foster greater engagement for locals by allowing them to showcase their food and cultural offerings, ultimately providing vital financial support for their livelihoods. He referred to the launch as “an early Christmas present for the people of Vanua Levu,” with services scheduled to commence on December 20, just in time for the festive season.

Gosal Cruisers will operate daily cruises, departing from the hotel jetty at 9:30 am. The excursions will highlight sightseeing and cultural exchanges at hotspots including Kia, Mali, Druadrua, Vorovoro, Savusavu, and nearby small islands. The vessel is equipped to accommodate three crew members and boasts a cruising speed of about 35 knots.

This initiative not only provides a new means of transportation and entertainment for locals and tourists but it also serves as a significant opportunity for the community to engage in tourism activities, promoting economic growth and cultural exchange in the region.

Summary: The launch of the Gosal Cruisers in Labasa aims to boost local tourism and commerce in Vanua Levu, promising daily sightseeing and cultural exchanges. Owned by Charan Jeath Singh, the catamaran is valued at $1 million and is set to begin operations on December 20, benefitting the local community economically through enhanced participation in tourism.
