Fiji has received cabinet approval to host the 9th Pacific Tuna Forum in 2025, marking a significant event for the region. This biennial conference serves as an important platform for Pacific Island countries to discuss vital issues related to tuna management, explore market opportunities, address trade barriers, and advance research and development of new tuna products. The forum also aims to strengthen the overall prospects for the tuna industry across the Pacific Ocean.

In a collaborative effort, the National Fisheries Authority of Papua New Guinea has committed to support the hosting of the Forum through a shared cost arrangement, emphasizing regional cooperation.

Fiji previously hosted the 5th Pacific Tuna Forum in 2015, and hosting this event again underscores the country’s integral role in facilitating discussions that could shape the future of the tuna industry in the Pacific.

This forum holds promising potential for the collaborative growth and sustainability of the tuna sector, which is essential for the economies of many Pacific Island nations. It reflects a commitment to not only managing resources effectively but also to seizing new trade opportunities that can benefit local communities and contribute to regional stability.
