Fiji has been chosen to host the 9th Pacific Tuna Forum in 2025, following a decision made by the Cabinet. This significant biennial conference gathers stakeholders from the Pacific Islands to discuss crucial issues related to tuna management, market opportunities, trade barriers, and the development of new products, as well as the overall future of the tuna industry in the region.
The National Fisheries Authority of Papua New Guinea will lend its support for the Forum through a cost-sharing agreement, highlighting regional collaboration in addressing common challenges.
Fiji has previously hosted this important event, welcoming participants to the 5th Pacific Tuna Forum in 2015. This upcoming forum presents a valuable opportunity for fostering dialogue and collaborative efforts among Pacific nations toward sustaining and enhancing the tuna industry, which is vital for the economies and livelihoods of many in the region.
The selection of Fiji as the host country for this prominent forum is a testament to its commitment to marine resource management and strengthens its role as a leader in Pacific fisheries.
