Rod Dominish, a seasoned hasher with nearly 20 visits to Fiji, has endorsed the first-ever Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital-sponsored Pan Asia-Pacific Hash, slated to take place in Fiji in September 2027.
Dominish’s journey in hashing began in 1967 with the Sydney Hash House Harriers, and he later founded the Wagga Wagga Hash House Harriers in 1974, remaining a steadfast member ever since. Now in his 80s, he is enjoying a family vacation at the Wyndham Resort on Denarau Island.
Expressing his excitement, Dominish remarked, “I have traveled worldwide to participate in international hash events, and this is my 20th visit to Fiji.” He extended his gratitude to the sponsors for their support during this pivotal moment for the event.
The inaugural PSH Pan Asia-Pacific Hash is scheduled for September 16-18, 2027, in Nadi. Event director Dr. Ram Raju, emeritus grand master of the Nadi Hash House Harriers, highlighted September as an ideal time for the gathering.
He explained the strategic timing for holding the event, noting that the Fiji group would be attending the Aussie Nashash in March 2025 in Australia to build camaraderie with other hash house members. Furthermore, participants will also attend the 20th Pan Asia Hash in Taiwan in November 2025, followed by the Interhash in Indonesia in May 2026. Dr. Raju is optimistic that these earlier events will pave the way for a successful Pan Asia-Pacific Hash in Nadi.
He pointed out that hosting the event in September coincides with Fiji’s off-peak tourist season, promising better hotel rates and pleasant weather conditions. The events are being collaboratively organized by the three Hash clubs in Nadi — Nadi, Malolo, and Hospital Hash House Harriers.
This upcoming hash event presents an exciting opportunity for both local and international participants to experience the vibrant culture and stunning landscapes of Fiji while engaging in the spirited tradition of hashing. With the careful planning underway, the future looks bright for this newly established gathering of hashing enthusiasts.
