Fiji is gearing up for a significant milestone in sports tourism as it prepares to host the inaugural Pan Pacific Hash 2027. Scheduled for September 16-18, 2027, in Nadi, this event is expected to attract around 2,000 runners from around the globe. The launch took place recently at Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) in Legalega, where the hospital pledged $150,000 as the major sponsor of the event.
Parvish Kumar, the founder and CEO of PSH Hospitals, emphasized the importance of promoting an active lifestyle to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs). He praised the Hash House Harriers, an organization known for fostering community and fitness, acknowledging their role as strong advocates for healthy living.
Event director Ram Raju expressed enthusiasm about this comeback for Fiji on the international running scene, particularly following the successful 2018 Interhash event that also took place in Nadi. He reminisced about the plans for the first-ever South Pacific Interhash 2021, which had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but now feels optimistic about the future.
The 2018 Interhash was marked by nearly 2,000 participants, demonstrating Fiji’s capability to manage large-scale international sporting events. With registration already open, the organizers are confident of an even larger turnout in 2027. The Pan Pacific Hash 2027 aims to not only engage both elite and recreational runners but also to solidify Fiji’s reputation as a premier destination for international sports competitions.
