Fiji will host the 9th Pacific Tuna Forum in 2025, as confirmed by the Cabinet. This important biennial conference serves as a platform for Pacific Island nations to discuss various pressing issues related to tuna, including management strategies, market opportunities, trade obstacles, as well as research and development of new tuna products.
The National Fisheries Authority of Papua New Guinea has committed to supporting the event with a cost-sharing arrangement, highlighting regional cooperation in fostering sustainable practices within the tuna industry.
Fiji previously hosted the 5th Pacific Tuna Forum in 2015, demonstrating its ongoing engagement in discussions that affect the vital tuna sector in the region.
The decision to host this forum again emphasizes the country’s dedication to enhancing collaboration among Pacific nations in dealing with shared challenges and maximizing opportunities within the tuna trade. It is a hopeful sign that the Pacific Islands are committed to sustainable fishing practices and economic growth, promising a brighter future for the region’s fishing communities.
This event could not only bolster the tuna industry but also enhance ties between Pacific nations, fostering a spirit of partnership and unity in addressing important environmental and economic issues.
