“Fiji Set to Clash with Tonga: A Battle of Rankings Unfolds!”

Young rugby player Andrea Cocagi was in great spirits during the captain’s run for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians in Tonga yesterday. This practice took place just a day after he was included in the matchday squad for the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup against Tonga.

Cocagi is set to start at inside center in today’s match and is expected to be a key player. Head coach Mick Byrne has made seven changes to the starting lineup that won against Samoa 42-16 two weeks ago in Suva.

Team captain Tevita Ikanivere noted that players have adjusted well to their new positions and enjoyed a productive week of preparation. He highlighted the importance of last Wednesday’s intense training session focused on fitness.

“The boys have been settling in well; we played Samoa two weeks ago,” Ikanivere remarked. “We had a significant preparation last week to improve our fitness. The boys have gelled nicely; we came out here today (yesterday) to fine-tune everything.”

Ikanivere expressed that team morale is high, and the squad is confident heading into the game. “We prepared well and look forward to showcasing it tomorrow (today),” he added, emphasizing their readiness to face the formidable Ikale Tahi team.

Meanwhile, the Tongan squad also held their captain’s run at Teufaiva Stadium yesterday. Tongan coach Tevita Tu’ifua stated that they are aiming for a victory against the Flying Fijians on home turf.

Fiji only needs a point from the match to secure the top spot in their pool. However, Tonga is equally motivated, as a strong performance could elevate them by two places in the world rankings.

Fiji will face Tonga at 3 PM at Teufaiva Stadium in Nuku’alofa, Tonga.
