The 43rd Annual Fiji Seniors’ Golf Open has commenced at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa. Sponsored by Swire Shipping and V. Prasad Holdings Co. LTD, the event spans three days, taking place on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Open to golfers aged 55 and over, this tournament gathers some of the most skilled senior players, featuring past champions like PC Goundar, Robert Li, Alipate Voicaicake, and the defending champion Opetaia Ravai.

Although Sharon Smith, last year’s Ladies champion, is absent, competitors such as Agnes Fong Toy and Susan Yee promise vigorous competition in the Ladies division. Notably, in the Men’s over 70-years division, Thiphait Hussein aims to once again capture the Jack Akbay Trophy.

Fiji Golf Club Secretary Susan Yee shared that 60 participants have been confirmed, with more expected to register on the day of the event. New players such as Tom Managreve, Paul Bennion, Richard Kwon, and Eric Nand are anticipated to bring fresh energy to the competition. On Wednesday, the tournament will feature a time draw, with a seeded draw following on Thursday after two days of play. A prize-giving dinner on Friday at the Central Cuisine Restaurant will celebrate the winners.

Over the years, the Fiji Seniors’ Golf Open has established itself as a prestigious event, fostering competitive spirit and camaraderie among senior golfers. The tournament is a testament to the enduring appeal of golf, encouraging not only the exhibition of skill but also the enjoyment and social connections that come with sharing passion for the sport.
