An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 struck approximately 41 kilometers east-southeast of Nalele Village on Cikobia Island, according to the Fiji Seismology Section. The seismic event occurred at a shallow depth of 9 kilometers at 6:12 PM local time.

Authorities have confirmed that there is no immediate tsunami threat to the Fiji region as a result of this earthquake. In an effort to enhance data collection regarding the event, Fiji Seismology is urging members of the public who felt the quake to provide feedback on their experiences.

Residents are encouraged to report various details, including the duration of shaking, any audible sounds such as rumbling, the nature of the shaking (whether it was short, long, swaying, or sharp), and any observations of damage, such as items falling or furniture moving. These reports will be crucial for scientists aiming to better understand ground shaking effects and to assess the earthquake’s impact.

Contributions can be made through official reporting channels established by Fiji Seismology. This community involvement will provide invaluable insight for further analysis and research.
