During July, a total of 15,223 residents exited Fiji, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS). Among these departures, 13,488 individuals, representing 88.6 percent, were traveling for short-term absences of less than three months. In addition, 625 residents, or 4.1 percent, were set to be away for more than three months but less than a year, while 1,110 residents, equating to 7.3 percent, were leaving for longer-term stays of one year or more.
The FBoS also indicated that provisional figures for visitor arrivals in July 2024 reached 98,332. Out of this total, 97,331 visitors arrived by air, while 1,001 came by sea, which largely included seamen from fishing vessels (718) and 283 yacht arrivals.
Tourists arriving in July primarily came for holiday purposes, accounting for 79.9 percent of total arrivals. Additionally, 9.9 percent visited friends or relatives, 1.6 percent were in the country for business, and 8.6 percent traveled for other reasons.
This figure marks a record for the month of July and reflects a significant increase of 5.2 percent from the previous year. Furthermore, there was a rise of 6.2 percent compared to June 2024, which recorded 92,571 visitors. For context, visitor arrivals in July for 2023 and 2022 were 93,483 and 78,368, respectively.
