Fiji Sees Historic Surge in July Departures and Visitor Arrivals!

A total of 15,223 residents from Fiji left the country in July, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS). Among these departures, 13,488 individuals, or 88.6 percent, left for short-term visits of less than three months. Additionally, 625 residents, accounting for 4.1 percent, departed for stays between three months and one year, while 1,110 individuals, or 7.3 percent, left for longer-term absences of one year or more.

The FBoS also reported that provisional visitor arrivals for July 2024 reached 98,332. Of these visitors, 97,331 arrived by air, and 1,001 arrived via sea. The sea arrivals predominantly consisted of 718 seamen on fishing vessels and 283 yacht arrivals.

The data indicates that 79.9 percent of the visitors came for holiday purposes, while 9.9 percent visited friends or relatives, 1.6 percent were there for business, and 8.6 percent traveled for other reasons. This number marks a record for July, showing a significant increase of 5.2 percent compared to the previous year.

Moreover, there was a 6.2 percent rise in visitors compared to June 2024, which saw 92,571 arrivals. In comparison, visitor arrivals in July of previous years were 93,483 in 2023 and 78,368 in 2022.
