Hon. Charan Jeath Singh, the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, is representing Fiji at the 33rd International Sugar Organization Council seminar in London. During his visit, he engaged in discussions with leaders from Czarnikow Group, a prominent global player in the sugar trade and related products, including ethanol. The focus of their talks was on potential strategies to broaden Fiji’s market reach and diversify its product range, aiming to secure higher prices and better profitability for local sugar farmers.
Czarnikow Group has maintained a longstanding partnership with Fiji for over a century, originating from its association with the Colonial Sugar Refining era and evolving alongside the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC). This collaboration highlights the enduring ties and shared goals between the two entities.
This initiative is an encouraging step forward for Fiji’s agricultural sector, as partnering with established market leaders could lead to increased economic benefits for farmers and an overall uplift in the local sugar industry’s competitiveness. By exploring new markets and value-added products, Fiji may enhance its economic stability and provide a brighter future for its sugar producers.
