Fiji Seeks Prosperity in PNG: A Mission of Opportunities!

Fiji is preparing for an ambitious four-day trade and investment mission to Papua New Guinea (PNG) scheduled for March 24 to March 27, 2025. The mission seeks to capitalize on 20 potential investment and trade opportunities worth over $100 million, focusing on vital sectors such as agriculture, tourism, information communication technology (ICT), and manufacturing.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, emphasized that the mission presents a significant opportunity for Fiji to engage with the growing PNG market. He noted that the recent establishment of Fiji’s High Commission in PNG and the revitalization of the Fiji-PNG Business Council indicate a renewed commitment to strengthen economic ties between the two nations.

The delegation, consisting of government officials, business leaders, and representatives from the private sector, will participate in business forums, networking events, and meetings aimed at forging new partnerships. Investment Fiji’s Chief Executive Officer, Kamal Chetty, remarked that the mission will enhance Fiji’s visibility in PNG by promoting its favorable investment climate, abundant business opportunities, and tourism attractions.

This upcoming mission represents not only a strategic push for new business ventures but also a pathway to deeper collaboration between Fiji and PNG. By fostering regular exchanges and discussions on economic initiatives, both nations aim to secure lasting partnerships that can drive economic growth and development.

The mission arrives amidst concerns raised by PNG officials regarding the trade imbalance between the two countries. The renewed efforts of the Fiji-PNG Business Council are seen as a key mechanism to address these concerns and transform the current trade dynamics to benefit both nations.

As both countries look forward to this collaborative endeavor, there is a palpable sense of optimism that it will lead to fruitful partnerships and stimulate economic resilience in the region, paving the way for sustainable development for both Fiji and PNG.
