The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has announced an opening for the position of Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). This pivotal role comes with extensive powers as outlined in Section 115 of the Constitution, which grants the Commissioner authority over the appointment, removal, and discipline of all staff within FICAC.
The Commissioner is tasked with establishing terms of employment, qualification criteria, along with overseeing salaries and allowances, all while adhering to FICAC’s budget sanctioned by Parliament. Additionally, this position involves the preparation and execution of FICAC’s strategic and annual corporate plans, ensuring that the agency receives sufficient resources from the government in a timely manner.
Candidates interested in this vital role must be qualified legal practitioners in Fiji or in another recognized jurisdiction, with a minimum of 15 years of post-admission experience in law and a demonstrated proficiency in relevant fields. Significant people management experience of two to three years, coupled with strong leadership and stakeholder management capabilities, is also essential. A strategic mindset and a relevant university degree are highly desirable, and applicants must not have any criminal history or convictions related to the Independent Legal Services Commission.
The appointment of the Commissioner is made by the President based on the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission after consulting with the Attorney-General.
