Fiji is actively seeking assistance from Australia and New Zealand to provide marine resources that will enable the deployment of its personnel to Vanuatu. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka shared this information during a media conference, emphasizing the ongoing communication with key partners through the Ministry of Regional Development and Disaster Management, as well as the army and police.

Rabuka noted that they have reached out to Vanuatu’s Prime Minister to express Fiji’s readiness to offer help in the aftermath of a devastating 7.3 magnitude earthquake. Currently, Vanuatu’s airport is inoperable, necessitating the need for marine transport to effectively mobilize troops and aid personnel. Assistance from Australia and New Zealand is crucial as operations may need to begin from Santo before reaching the main affected areas by boat or landing craft.

In his remarks, Rabuka conveyed heartfelt condolences to the people of Vanuatu who have been impacted by this natural disaster.

This situation highlights the essential cooperation between Pacific nations in times of crisis, and the proactive steps taken by Fiji demonstrate a commitment to supporting its neighbors during their time of need. The readiness of regional partners to assist reflects a solidarity that is vital for recovery and resilience in the face of natural disasters.

Overall, there is hope that through international collaboration and support, Vanuatu can recover and rebuild after this calamity.
