Fiji is actively seeking assistance from Australia and New Zealand to secure marine resources that will allow the deployment of its personnel to Vanuatu. This request was announced by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during a media conference where he emphasized ongoing communication with their partners, including the Ministry of Regional Development and Disaster Management, as well as the army and police.

Prime Minister Rabuka noted the challenges due to the current unavailability of air access, stating that the airport runway is out of service. Consequently, any military or personnel deployment will need to be coordinated through the island of Santo, using boats or landing crafts to reach the main affected areas.

Additionally, the Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the people of Vanuatu who have been impacted by the recent 7.3 magnitude earthquake, highlighting Fiji’s commitment to providing timely support.

This cooperation between Pacific nations underscores a regional solidarity and a collective approach to disaster response, which is vital in times of crisis. It illustrates the importance and strength of partnerships in addressing humanitarian needs, providing hope for those affected in Vanuatu during this challenging time.
