The Fijian government is currently seeking Heads of Missions for its foreign missions located in Geneva, Jakarta, and Wellington. Luke Daunivalu serves as Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, while Amenatave Yauvoli is the Ambassador in Jakarta. Recently, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola retired from his position as High Commissioner in Wellington.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has outlined in a vacancy advertisement that the selected Heads of Mission will be instrumental in advancing Fiji’s foreign policy objectives within bilateral contexts relevant to their respective regions. Candidates must demonstrate proven leadership experience either in Fiji’s private or public sector and possess a comprehensive understanding of foreign policy formulation and government direction.

The deadline for applications is May 9.

This recruitment signals Fiji’s commitment to strengthening its diplomatic presence, as echoed by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s encouragement at the Heads of Diplomatic Missions Meeting, where he emphasized the importance of prioritizing Fiji’s interests abroad. Such leadership roles are vital for enhancing Fiji’s international role and fostering regional cooperation.

The proactive approach taken by the government reflects a broader strategy to align diplomatic missions with national development goals, which is crucial for Fiji’s continued development and influence in the Pacific region.
