The Fijian Cabinet has approved a set of loan and grant agreements with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as part of the Fiji Critical Bridges Resilience Project. Under this initiative, Fiji is set to receive a total of USD 134.5 million, which is approximately FJD 304.4 million. This financing includes USD 120.0 million, equivalent to about FJD 271.6 million, in concessional loan financing, alongside USD 14.5 million (around FJD 32.8 million) designated as grant financing.
The Fiji Roads Authority has pinpointed four bridges that are slated for replacement under this significant project, which aims to enhance the resilience of the country’s infrastructure. The project is expected to be completed by 2031.
This financial support not only emphasizes the commitment of international partners to assist Fiji in strengthening its infrastructure but also reflects a proactive approach to improving transportation networks that are crucial for economic growth and disaster resilience. The initiative marks a pivotal step forward, providing hope for safer and more reliable transportation for the Fijian population in the years to come.
