Schools across Fiji are scheduled to reopen tomorrow, with the exception of those in the Lau Group, which will remain closed due to damage from Tropical Cyclone Rae. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro made the announcement after consultations with the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO). He confirmed that schools in the Northern, Lomaiviti, Western, and Central Divisions, as well as in Rotuma, will resume classes as planned.

The extended closure for the Lau Group is attributed to significant damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and school buildings, which impedes access for students and teachers. Additionally, many schools in this region are being utilized as evacuation centers.

Minister Radrodro advised parents to evaluate the conditions and exercise discretion when deciding whether to send their children to school, particularly in areas affected by flooding or hazards. He emphasized the importance of communication between school leaders and management committees to stay updated on the situation.

The Ministry of Education is actively monitoring the developments and will provide further guidance as necessary, prioritizing the safety and well-being of the students. Community support and cooperation during these challenging times are essential, and there is hope that families will successfully navigate through these difficulties and return to normalcy in education soon.

This proactive approach reflects a wider commitment to student safety, which has been evident in similar weather-related challenges faced in the past.
