The Ministry of Education is warning the public about a fabricated announcement circulating online from a counterfeit website posing as the “Fiji Ministry of Education.” This misleading information claims that all schools in Fiji will be closed from Wednesday, September 18, to Monday, October 6, 2024, due to a supposed monkeypox outbreak with 35 new reported cases.

The Ministry clarifies that this information is entirely false, as there has been no official announcement regarding school closures. All schools are open and functioning as normal, with no existing plans for any closures.

Additionally, the Ministry is collaborating closely with the Ministry of Health & Medical Services, which confirms that there are no reported cases of monkeypox in Fiji, and no directives for school closures or curfews have been issued.
