The Ministry of Education has yet to determine if schools will reopen tomorrow, as severe weather continues to impact various regions of the country. According to senior education officials in statements to FBC News, discussions are still taking place in light of the adverse conditions.

Today, schools across the nation were closed due to the inclement weather, which has prompted ongoing monitoring from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi. A flash flood warning has been issued for the entirety of Viti Levu, while Vanua Levu is subject to a flash flood alert.

In a Special Weather Bulletin released at 3 PM, weather authorities noted that an active trough of low pressure is contributing to heavy rainfall and strong northwesterly winds affecting the area. The impacts of this weather are anticipated to lead to flash flooding and potential riverine flooding, particularly in drains, small streams, Irish crossings, low-water bridges, roads, and properties situated in lower-lying zones.

This warning is based on information received from the Fiji Flash Flood Guidance System, rainfall forecast models, and weather radar observations.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, weather conditions are predicted to improve slightly, with cloudy skies and morning showers expected to transition to predominantly cloudy conditions in the afternoon across the country. Although winds are forecasted to relax somewhat from tomorrow, a strong wind warning remains in effect for all waters in Fiji, along with moderate to rough seas and reduced visibility during heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The situation highlights the importance of vigilance in the face of severe weather, with the community urged to remain alert and prepared for potential flooding and other disruptions. While challenges persist, there is hope for improved conditions in the coming days, fostering a sense of resilience among citizens.
