Lelean Memorial School celebrated a significant accomplishment last Friday with the inauguration of a new three-storey classroom block and a gymnasium, officiated by the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the $80,000 Waisale Serevi Gymnasium, named in honor of Fiji’s renowned rugby player and “King of Sevens.” This facility marks a pivotal enhancement to the school’s sports infrastructure, as it includes changing rooms, showers, and toilet facilities for both male and female students—addressing long-term needs within the school’s sports programs.
In addition to the gymnasium, the new classroom block comprises six well-equipped classrooms, designed to accommodate 40 students each, along with two teacher planning rooms furnished with twelve desks each to facilitate collaborative teaching and learning.
These developments reflect a broader trend within Fiji’s educational landscape, where there is an increasing governmental focus on improving school infrastructure to foster more conducive learning environments. Similar initiatives have recently taken place across various schools in Fiji, including new classroom constructions at Vatukaloko Secondary School and upgrades at other institutions.
This positive momentum in educational development not only enhances the physical learning spaces but also underscores a commitment to better educational outcomes for students throughout the nation. As communities continue to support these advancements, the future for Fiji’s youth looks increasingly brighter, with improved access to learning facilities that can inspire academic success and personal growth.
