Fiji Schoolboys Gear Up for Epic Showdown Against Australia

The Fiji school boys’ rugby team is feeling positive as they prepare for their upcoming match against the Australian school boys this Saturday at Lawaqa Park, starting at 6pm. Head coach Peniona Ranitu provided updates on the team’s preparations, highlighting their effective combinations and the plan to showcase their traditional Fijian style of play.

“The boys are doing well, and there are no major injuries in camp,” Ranitu stated. He mentioned that several players have experience from the high-performance unit and some recently participated in the Fiji Warriors as well as the Youth Olympics. The team is noted for having agile forwards and tall backs, which they plan to utilize in their open Fijian style of rugby to ensure an enjoyable match for everyone.

Despite their confidence, the coach recognized the difficulty of limited preparation time. “Our challenge now is trying to condense a month’s worth of work into just a few days.” Nevertheless, with assistance from the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) and High-Performance Unit (HPU) staff, the team has been able to maximize the training opportunities provided.

As they look toward the match, Ranitu acknowledged the strength of their Australian rivals. “Australia is bringing strong and large forwards; we encourage all supporters and fans to come and support these boys.” He expressed gratitude for the Fiji Rugby Union HPU’s support in facilitating their training program.
