The Fiji Schoolboys under-18 rugby team is gearing up for two Test matches against Australia. Head coach Peniona Ranitu has named an extended squad of 38 players from 80 who participated in trials on Wednesday. The final roster of 30 players will be determined next week after a week-long training camp.

Ranitu highlighted the necessity of maintaining the players’ fitness, particularly after a lengthy season in the Fiji Secondary School Deans competition. He stated, “The team will undergo strength and conditioning tests to assess their fitness levels and make necessary adjustments.” He noted that the fitness displayed in the first trial is promising, but the team must keep it up, as facing Australia will be a tough challenge.

Fiji Rugby Union’s technical coach, Mike Legge, aims to enhance the players’ core skills and position-specific techniques, believing that improving these areas will better prepare them for the competition ahead.

The matches are set to occur on September 27 and October 3 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
