The Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji has voiced its support for the Consumer Council of Fiji’s concerns regarding food preparation practices in restaurants, which may mislead consumers, particularly those observing religious dietary restrictions. National President Dhirendra Nand highlighted that such misleading practices are unacceptable for Sanatan followers who adhere to strict vegetarian diets based on their religious beliefs.

“Transparency is not optional; it is a fundamental requirement. Consumers have the right to know exactly what they are eating, especially when it pertains to religious or cultural dietary restrictions. Misleading practices like these compromise faith-based choices and cannot be ignored,” Nand stated. He called on relevant authorities to investigate restaurant practices to ensure accountability.

Taking proactive measures, the Sabha plans to introduce the SSDPS Fiji Certification for vegetarian products. This certification will allow Sanatan followers to identify and purchase items that comply with their dietary standards with confidence. The Sabha encourages all Sanatan followers and the broader community to support this initiative by choosing vegetarian products that bear the SSDPS Fiji Certification.

This effort aims not only to protect consumers but also to inspire businesses to maintain transparency while respecting cultural and religious values. The initiative underscores the importance of faith and dietary integrity within the community, providing a positive path toward ensuring that consumers can trust the food they consume.
