The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is set to transform the rugby landscape in the nation through an innovative partnership with AIA Sports, a prominent French company specializing in sports technology and data analytics. This collaboration aims to introduce a state-of-the-art digital platform that will modernize rugby operations throughout Fiji, aligning them with the highest international standards.

With a focus on harnessing advanced technology and innovative management tools, this initiative is poised to revolutionize the tracking and monitoring of player development, administration, and overall welfare, thereby positioning Fiji rugby for sustained global success. The new system is scheduled to launch at the upcoming Skipper Cup and will subsequently extend to other domestic competitions, including the Vanua Championships and Marama Championships.

FRU CEO Koli Sewabu highlighted the transformative potential of this initiative. “We are not just announcing a new supplier or technical partner; we are fundamentally reshaping how Fiji rugby operates, trains, and competes on the world stage,” he said.

The new platform, known as the Fiji Rugby Management System (FRMS), will collect and unify player data from grassroots levels, including players as young as 12, extending through domestic competitions up to the national teams: the Flying Fijians and Fijiana squads. By replacing the outdated paper-based records and spreadsheets that have hindered the administration of Fijian rugby, the FRMS will securely consolidate player registrations, medical records, training load monitoring, and administrative communication within a single, streamlined professional system.

“For the first time, we will have a single source of truth from village clubs all the way to our national teams,” Sewabu explained, highlighting the significance of this centralized approach. The game performance analysis will be enhanced by a dedicated support team from AIA Sports comprising rugby specialists in video analysis, data science, and statistics, who will provide invaluable insights to national and local coaches.

This partnership not only demonstrates a commitment to excellence in the sport but also reflects a promising future for rugby in Fiji, ensuring that players and teams are better equipped to compete on the international stage.
