A group of prominent individuals is competing for positions on the newly established Fiji Rugby Union management board. These candidates were nominated by their respective Provincial Unions and have undergone a vetting process by the nominations committee, leading to a final shortlist.
This initiative is part of the drive to enact a new constitution aimed at advancing the Fiji Rugby Union. The eligible Provincial Union representatives will convene at the Fiji Rugby Union Annual General Meeting in Suva this Saturday to elect the appropriate candidates for various leadership roles.
The key positions being contested include Commercial Director, Women Director, Rugby Director, Legal Director, and Finance Director. Among the shortlisted candidates are notable figures such as Mark Evans, CEO of Fijian Drua; former Flying Fijians head coach Ilivasi Tabua; Koli Sewabu, a former World Rugby trainer; finance expert John Sanday; banker Tony Ram; media specialist Stanley Simpson; leading lawyer Isireli Fa; and Lajipa Naulivou, who was the first captain of the Fijiana team.
This election represents a significant step toward establishing strong leadership within the Fiji Rugby Union, possibly leading to a more vibrant and effective governance structure that fosters the growth of rugby in Fiji.
