Laijipa Naulivou has been appointed as the new Coaching Director of the Fiji Rugby Union, marking a significant milestone in women’s rugby in the country. Her appointment was confirmed by FRU board chairman John Sanday, who expressed confidence in Naulivou’s capabilities, noting their successful working relationship in the past.

Naulivou, a trailblazer in women’s rugby, previously held the distinction of being the first captain of the Fijiana national team. Her nomination for this pivotal role came from the Nasinu Rugby Union during the FRU’s Annual General Meeting last November. She succeeds Conway Beg, who recently resigned from the position.

In a statement, Naulivou indicated her familiarity with the sport, hinting at her readiness to contribute to the growth and development of rugby in Fiji. Additionally, Sanday announced the appointment of Etu Tuqota as the new FRU board secretary, signaling ongoing changes within the organization.

Naulivou’s appointment is not just an advancement for her career but also a positive step forward for female representation in rugby leadership roles in Fiji. Her experience and leadership are expected to inspire future generations of female players, paving the way for a more inclusive environment in sports.

With Naulivou at the helm, the future looks promising for Fiji Rugby, particularly for women’s participation and development in the sport.
