The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has reported an impressive surplus of $1.6 million in its 2023 annual report, marking a significant recovery from a loss of $1.6 million in the previous year. Chairman Peter Mazey highlighted this turnaround, noting that in 2022, the FRU’s income totaled $21 million while expenses reached approximately $23 million.
In contrast, the union increased its income to $27 million in 2023. Although expenditures rose to $25.5 million, the substantial boost in revenue enabled the FRU to realize a profit of $1.6 million. Mazey expressed optimism about the future, stating that these results indicate the FRU is moving in a positive direction.
During the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, the FRU will discuss resolutions from its unions and present the 2023 financial report. Additionally, seven board members will be appointed at this meeting, further shaping the future of the organization.
This financial turnaround not only highlights the resilience and effective management of the FRU but also sets a promising foundation for the continued growth and success of rugby in Fiji. The improved financial health is likely to contribute positively to the development of the sport at all levels in the country.
