The board of trustees for the Fiji Rugby Union will remain in place, as announced by board chairman Peter Mazey. This declaration came after the recent Annual General Meeting held at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
Mazey emphasized the trustees’ role in preventing future issues similar to those faced by the union the previous year, ensuring that the valuable assets of Fiji Rugby are safeguarded. The board will serve another four-year term, comprising Mazey, Alipate Naorosui, Jenny Seeto, and Sikeli Tuinamuana.
In the 2023 Fiji Rugby Union Annual Report, Mazey reflected on the significant challenges taken on by the trustees upon their appointment. He noted that none sought the role for personal gain; instead, they embraced it out of a sense of social responsibility to support their members and the sport’s development in Fiji.
He revealed the tough financial situation that the union had been in and highlighted efforts made by the trustees to engage with sponsors to demonstrate the importance of their investment in rugby and its role in nation-building.
It was also noted that Mosese Naivalu, the newly appointed legal director, had resigned as a trustee before his nomination.
The steadfast commitment of the trustees reflects a devoted effort to ensure a stable and thriving future for Fiji Rugby, emphasizing the importance of leadership and accountability in sports management. With their continued oversight, there is hope that Fiji Rugby will embark on a path of recovery and progress.
