Fiji Rugby Union Set to Appoint New Women’s Sevens Coach for 2025

A new head coach for the Fijiana women’s rugby sevens team will be appointed ahead of the 2025 HSBC SVNS Series, according to Fiji Rugby Union interim Trustees chairman Peter Mazey. This decision follows the conclusion of Saiasi Fuli’s contract as head coach in December.

Mazey announced that the position will be publicly advertised next week, after discussions with Fuli. The Fiji Rugby Union is on the lookout for a suitable candidate to lead the women’s team into a new phase. The new coach will be expected to develop and implement a high-performance strategy for team selection.

Following the Olympics, the contracts of the women’s sevens players have ended, with the exception of Younis Bese and Heleina Young, who will remain under contract until the year’s end. Fuli expressed gratitude to the FRU for the opportunity to coach the national women’s team, noting the challenge of transitioning from a men’s coaching background, where he spent five years helping the team from relegation.

In other news, Osea Kolinisau will continue as the head coach of the Fiji men’s sevens rugby team for the next four years. Mazey praised Kolinisau’s outstanding results over the past few months and mentioned that Kolinisau has significant plans for the team’s future. His primary goal is to secure a gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
