A new head coach for Fijiana women’s rugby sevens will be appointed at the beginning of 2025. This announcement was made by Peter Mazey, the interim chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union, who stated that the position will be opened for applications next week. Saiasi Fuli’s contract as head coach will conclude in December.
Mazey mentioned that after extensive discussions with Fuli, they decided to seek a new head coach. He emphasized the need for a candidate who can lead the women’s team into its next stage, including implementing a high-performance strategy and selecting a new team.
Most contracts for the women’s sevens players have ended following the Olympics, with the exception of Younis Bese and Heleina Young, who will remain contracted until the end of the year. Fuli expressed gratitude to the Fiji Rugby Union for the chance to coach the national women’s sevens team, reflecting on the complexities of transitioning from a men’s coaching background and the challenges faced over the past five years.
In another update, Osea Kolinisau will retain his position as head coach of the Fiji men’s sevens rugby team for the next four years. Mazey highlighted Kolinisau’s strong performance over the last four months, noting his ability and future plans. He stated that Kolinisau’s primary goal is to secure a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
