The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has played a crucial role in securing the HFC Bank Stadium as the venue for the finals of the Vodafone Deans Trophy and the Weet-Bix Raluve competitions, scheduled for August 23. This announcement was confirmed by Biu Colati, vice president for development of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union (FSSRU), during a recent interview.
Colati explained that the FRU assisted the FSSRU in coordinating with the Fiji Sports Council to obtain approval for the venue, alleviating a tense situation where the FSSRU struggled to find a suitable location for the finals. “Whenever we run into a concrete wall, Fiji Rugby is always there to come and bring us out of that,” Colati remarked, emphasizing the importance of the FRU’s support.
The confirmation of the finals at HFC Bank Stadium was officially announced by the Fiji Sports Council on social media, responding to earlier reports that suggested the finals might be held at Govind Park in Ba. These earlier plans were complicated by scheduling conflicts, as the venue was already booked for another tournament.
Gilbert Vakalalabure, acting chief executive of the Fiji Sports Council, expressed relief at the resolution, indicating that the HFC Bank Stadium would provide a high-quality experience for both players and spectators. The quarter-finals for the Deans competition are set to take place at Churchill Park in Lautoka and Prince Charles Park in Nadi, building excitement ahead of the finals.
This collaborative effort not only resolves the FSSRU’s concerns over venue selection but also reinforces the strong community spirit and commitment to youth rugby in Fiji, promising an exciting day of competition for all involved. Fans can eagerly anticipate a thrilling showcase of talent and sportsmanship, reflecting the passion for rugby that unites the nation.
Overall, the involvement of the FRU in ensuring the HFC Bank Stadium will host the finals illustrates the resilience and unity among stakeholders in the Fiji rugby community, setting the stage for a successful event.
