The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is poised to announce new head coaches for both the Fijiana 7s and 15s teams later this week, according to CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu. He confirmed that offers have been extended to interested candidates, and they are now awaiting responses. Among the prominent applicants is Waisale Serevi, a legendary figure in rugby sevens known for his previous coaching role with the Indian Women’s 7s team. The former player Sireli Bobo is also being considered for a coaching position; however, Nayacalevu has refrained from disclosing the names of other candidates.

Serevi will collaborate with Bobo and the Fiji Sports Council coaching staff to assist in the preparation of the Under-20 7s squad, marking a proactive step in developing young talents in Fiji. This initiative underscores the FRU’s commitment to nurturing future rugby stars. Recently, Serevi was appointed as the International Brand Ambassador for Aqua Pacific Natural Artesian Water, illustrating his ongoing influence and contributions to the rugby community.

The Fijiana 15s head coach position became vacant following the departure of Mosese Rauluni last October, who successfully led the team to the Oceania Championship and secured qualification for the upcoming Rugby World Cup. Similarly, the Fijiana 7s coaching role has been unoccupied since Saiasi Fuli’s contract was not renewed in December. Fuli’s five-year tenure included leading the team to a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and participating in the subsequent Paris Olympics.
